Original and Unique are terms often used to describe art, in the case of Drillworks they are very accurate. Drillworks is the creation of artist, Drew Whitemore, who designs and makes Illuminated wall panels and Ostrich eggs from his studio in Suffolk.
The Art of Drillworks explores the interplay of light and shade, of movement and stillness. Made from various wooden or plastic substrates, intricate drilled holes of various sizes and angles allow the beauty of the design to flow through each totally bespoke and unique piece. The panels are then treated with a lacquered finish and illuminated from behind to act as a light-box.
Images can also be adapted from photographs chosen by the artist or supplied by the client. Complex and simple, absence and presence, Drillworks engages the viewer in an immediate and unique way, capturing movement within a piece of still art.
After several years of development, this experimental Art form is continually pushing the boundaries of discovery. You have to see one to explore the contradictions and illusions that bring each unique piece to life.
